The 315MW project at Hornsdale, 15 km north of Jamestown, is being developed by the Australian subsidiary of South African bank Investec.
The A$910m ($880m) project is expected to begin operations in late 2014.
With the Hornsdale approval, Australia’s Infigen winning planning consent for 450MW in the state’s far southeast and New Zealand’s TrustPower announcing plans to add 270MW to its Snowtown project, South Australia is fast becoming the country’s wind-energy leader.
Investec Bank Australia chief executive David Clarke says the state stands out as an ideal investment destination.
