Energy-starved South Africa has been inching toward an embrace of renewables for years, having launched a renewables target in 2003 and unveiled Africa’s first feed-in tariff last year – though no projects have yet benefited from it.
In the clearest sign yet that Africa may soon play host to utility-scale wind and solar farms, the government says it received nearly 400 applications from developers seeking to build 20GW of projects in its recent Request for Information (RFI), which opened in late September.
Of
