Netherland-based Sif has secured a deal to produce 84 monopile foundations for the 800MW Vineyard project off Massachusetts, as the supply chain for what will be the first large-scale US offshore wind farm further solidified.
Sif will produce and deliver the foundations from its MV2 facility in 2020 and 2021, said the Dutch group, adding that the project is subject to tight seasonal installation restrictions to protect North Atlantic Right Whales.
“Sif’s ability and confidence to meet this schedule was an important consideration in being selected by Vineyard Wind,” it said.
Vineyard Wind, a 50/50 joint venture between Iberdrola-controlled US utility Avangrid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, will become the largest American offshore wind farm so far when it enters full service, which the developer hopes to achieve in 2021.
Sif joins a roll-call of key suppliers headed by MHI Vestas, which is in line to supply its 9.5MW V164 wind turbines.
Bladt Industries is supplying Vineyard’s offshore substation while Prysmian has a cabling deal with the project.
