Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has landed an order for 100 of its newly launched SG14-222DD offshore wind turbines for developer Innogy’s 1.4GW Sofia megaproject off the UK, the latest in a series of gigawatt-scale contracts for the record-setting 14MW machine.

The order – conditional upon a final investment decision on the project, expected in the first quarter of 2021 – comes in the wake of recent contracts for the giant Hai Long development off Taiwan and the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind complex in the US Atlantic, building a supply pipeline of almost 4.5GW.
