Turbine-maker Siemens Gamesa has won its largest-ever project delivery, for the 1.386GW Hornsea 2 mega-project being built by Danish developer Orsted off the east coast of the UK.

The OEM will deliver 173 of its 8MW SG 8.0-167DD machines for the giant offshore wind farm, which will eclipse the neighbouring 1.218GW Hornsea 1 project – also being built by Orsted with turbines from the German-Spanish combine – when it comes online in 2022.

"We are very pleased that Orsted has placed its trust in Siemens Gamesa once again,” said Siemens Gamesa chief executive Andreas Nauen.
