Wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa has won the first deal for its 4.X platform in China.
The Spanish-German group will deliver 42 machines rated at 4.8MW to a 200MW project developed by Xinjiang TBEA Group in Xinjiang, northwest China.
The turbines – the second order Siemens Gamesa has booked from TBEA – are 145-metre rotor variants and set for commissioning before the end of 2020. The order includes five years of O&M services.
Like other western turbine OEMs, Siemens Gamesa is battling to make further inroads into a Chinese market dominated by local players such as Goldwind and Envision, but where new opportunities are seen as emerging thanks to the move to competition and away from subsidies.
Alfonso Faubel, recently-installed CEO of the group’s onshore wind arm, told Recharge in an August interview that as well as increasing market share in China, Siemens Gamesa wants to co-develop projects across Asia with Chinese companies.
