Siemens Gamesa this week took several preliminary steps that bring it closer to setting up offshore wind production and port facilities in Taiwan, as the company races with rival OEM MHI Vestas to get a slice of the 5.5GW in offshore capacity up for grabs on the island by 2025.

Siemens Gamesa offshore wind chief executive Andreas Nauen has signed a memorandum of understanding with Swancor chairman Robert Tsai in Taipei to investigate bringing additional local content to the Taiwanese offshore wind industry, the OEM said on Twitter.
