WindEurope’s board of directors has elected Siemens Gamesa chief executive Andreas Nauen as its new chairman for the next 18 months.

He will lead the industry group together with EDF Renewables executive vice president Nicolas Couderc, who serves as vice chair.
“The European industry has proven to be in the driving seat of the development of wind energy globally. We have built strong skills, gained vast experience and developed a reliable value chain across the Continent,” Nauen said.
“We must rely on all these attributes to take a big step towards the decarbonisation and electrification of the economy. … Renewables have proven to be the most resilient source of energy amid the pandemic.
“Besides, the ambitious renewable objectives that governments are deploying around the world, such as the recently launched European Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy by 2050, makes us positive for an economic recovery based on clean energy.”
Nauen had been appointed CEO of Siemens Gamesa in June 2020, following up on Markus Tacke, who is also a former WindEurope chairman. Previously, Nauen was the manufacturer’s offshore wind CEO. He also held the top job at Siemens Wind Power, and was CEO of now-defunct OEM Senvion.

Nauen succeed former MHI Vestas CEO Philippe Kavafyan, who stepped down from the role last month.
