India unexpectedly put its foot on the offshore wind accelerator with plans to launch large-scale auctions within months, in a move that surprised industry analysts both with its scale and immediate shift of focus to the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

India will put a first 4GW of capacity on the blocks off Tamil Nadu within the next “three or four months” according to a government statement issued late on Thursday.
