Maersk is entering the market for offshore wind installation with a firm contract from BP and Equinor’s Empire Wind joint venture for a new vessel to serve the 2GW-plus lead-off two phases of the huge project off New York.

The Danish shipping giant will build a Denmark-flagged, Singapore-constructed vessel for Empire Wind, which will remain at the installation site while US partner Kirby Offshore Wind will provide US-flagged feeder barges and towing vessels to stay in compliance with the Jones Act.
