The 20-year deal, which requires approval from the California Public Utilities Commission, would cover 350MW of the proposed Ocotillo Express wind project, in the renewable energy hotbed of the Imperial Valley, about 130km east of San Diego.

San Francisco-based Pattern, through its subsidiary Ocotillo Express, applied late last year for a right-of-way from the Bureau of Land Management to build the project on roughly 15,000 acres (60sq km) of public land.
