Sweden could soon be one of the fastest-growing offshore wind markets with some of the world’s largest projects as Stockholm prioritises the technology as part of electrification plans being accelerated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Scandinavian country — which already has one of the cleanest electricity mixes in the world, with 45% hydro, 30% nuclear, 17% wind and 8% combined heat and power from biofuels — wants more offshore wind power to decarbonise its heavy industry, transport and heating, and several gigawatts look set to be installed this decade.
