Scotland’s energy minister said he hopes the technology underpinning the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC), opened today despite fierce opposition from Donald Trump, would help change the US President’s mind over wind power.

Paul Wheelhouse said the Vattenfall wind farm in Aberdeen Bay, which Trump fought a long legal battle to stop over damage to the views from his golf course on land, represents a “proud achievement” for Scotland.

“We had an objection from MrTrump who is perfectly entitled as anybody is to lodge a objection to a planning application and it was dealt with in an appropriate way,” said Wheelhouse before a ceremonial opening of the project by Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
