Scottish residents could be among the world’s first to own community stakes in major floating wind farms under plans by sector giant Orsted and its partners in the ScotWind leasing round.

Orsted, floating wind pioneer BlueFloat Energy and developer Falck Renewables will look at community ownership as part of their joint bids to develop large-scale floating capacity off Scotland's coast.

The trio has engaged Energy4All, a specialist in community ownership that has worked with Falck to offer local stakes in Scottish onshore wind farms, to look at “a new framework allowing residents of Scotland and Scottish communities to share the financial benefits of the floating wind farms the consortium has applied to build”.
