The machine, erected in 2013 on a jacket foundation in the shallows near Methil before SHI withdrew from the European offshore wind market, is envisaged as a future hub for research, technology and skills development in the global wind power industry.
"Scotland's research and development in renewables is unrivalled and the Levenmouth demonstration turbine adds to Scotland's extensive portfolio of test facilities," said Scottish energy minister Fergus Ewing, cutting a ceremonial ribbon at the inauguration.
