RWE Innogy, its renewables division, grew its output 22% to 6.5 billion kilowatt hours in 2009 – even as its parent company’s total output slid 17% on the back of the recession. Renewables nevertheless accounted for just 3% of RWE’s generation.
RWE chief executive Jürgen Grossmann says the company has raised its annual investment plans for renewables to €1.4bn ($1.9bn) from €1bn, which includes the project pipeline of Dutch utility Essent, which RWE acquired in 2009.
