RWE will sell a 49% stake in the UK offshore wind farm Humber Gateway for GBP648m ($865m) to investment firm Greencoat in order to finance further growth in its expanding renewable energy business.

The German utility will keep 51% in the 219MW project that was commissioned off the coast of East Yorkshire in 2015 and remain its operator.

RWE said the disposal is part of its capital rotation programme and the UK will continue to play a key role in its strategy to grow its renewables business to become carbon neutral by 2040.
