RWE has filed the acquisition of the renewables businesses of its subsidiary Innogy and of rival E.ON with the European Commission (EC), which the German utility says is the first step in a multi-faceted regulatory process.

The three companies early last year announced their plan for a wide-ranging asset and share swap that – if approved by anti-trust authorities – will turn the new RWE into one of the world’s largest green power producers, with an initial renewables generation portfolio of 8.6GW.
