RWE has commissioned a 41MW wind farm in north-eastern Spain, which for the first time is using resource-saving ‘soft-spot’ foundations.

The German utility has installed nine Nordex 4.5MW turbines with a rotor diameter of 149 metres on the novel foundations at the Rea Unificado wind project, which is also RWE’s largest and most powerful in its Spanish fleet.

“Rea Unificado is the first RWE wind farm where we installed our wind turbines on innovative resource-saving ‘Soft-Spot’ foundations,” said Katja Wünschel, chief executive onshore wind and solar Europe & Australia at RWE Renewables.
