With an economy and geopolitical strategy based around its vast oil & gas reserves, it is hardly surprising that Russia has been slow to adopt green energy, with just 50MW of wind power installed to date.

Yet the world’s largest country — with the planet’s greatest wind potential — has finally seen the light, holding its first wind tenders and setting an official target of having 3.35GW turning by 2024.

“Mankind is moving towards ‘green energy’, this is without doubt the main road of development, the right direction,” President Vladimir Putin told the World Energy Congress in late 2016.
