Pioneering underwater substations could be deployed off Scotland under plans by a partnership bidding to build floating projects in the nation’s offshore wind leasing round.

Aker Offshore Wind and Ocean Winds would deploy the substations as part of their 6GW mega-bid into the ScotWind tender round currently underway to award new seabed rights, one of the largest developments proposed worldwide.

The plan would be among a handful of plans globally to deploy substations on the seabed to transport power from marine renewables projects, and by far the largest envisaged so far in the offshore wind sector.
