The White House on Wednesday pledged to support a future bill in the US Congress that streamlines federal permitting for energy projects after maverick Democrat Joe Manchin withdrew his proposal in face of bipartisan Senate opposition.

In a statement, Karine Jean-Pierre, his press secretary, said Biden supports Manchin’s plan “because it is necessary for our energy security, and to make more clean energy available to the American people”.

“We will continue to work with him to find a vehicle to bring this bill to the floor and get it passed,” she added, without providing details.
