Renewables during the first half of this year have met about 49% of Germany’s gross electricity consumption as Europe’s largest economy is struggling with diminished fossil gas flows from Russia, according to data from the solar and hydrogen research centre Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) and the German federation of energy and water industries (BDEW).

That is six percentage points more than in the same period of last year, thanks in great part to strong winds in January and February, and high solar irradiation in May and June, while offshore wind and biomass also registered slight increases.
