The head of state power company CFE claimed variability means wind and solar are more expensive than other technologies and the nation's President signalled a renewed focus on hydropower, as a war of words raged over the future of energy policy in Mexico.

“There’s a commitment made by Mexico to expand and develop clean energy, and at the same time maintain the technologies that support the current system,” said CFE general director Manuel Bartlett during a press conference with his boss, recently-elected Mexican president Andrés Manuel Lopéz Obrador (AMLO).
