The new UK government confirmed its election manifesto pledge to boost the nation's offshore wind capacity goal from 30GW to 40GW by 2030 and to back floating wind technology, when both appeared in the Queen’s Speech opening of parliament.

Conservative prime minister Boris Johnson, who last week achieved a decisive general election victory, has promised to push ahead with rapid decarbonisation of the UK economy in order to reach the 2050 net-zero carbon emissions goal put in place by his predecessor Theresa May.
