France said 576MW of onshore wind at 20 projects was successful in its latest renewable tender round, at an average price of €66.50/MWh ($73/MWh).
The average price of the 20-year power agreements at the fourth tender marks a nudge upwards from the third tender round for onshore wind in June, which saw 516MW successful at an average €63/MWh.
French onshore wind is attempting to regain momentum after being held back by permitting and other regulatory obstacles that have held back development in recent years, and saw it add just 1.5GW last year.
The nation hopes regular onshore auctions will fuel expansion to 2GW per year, in order to reach a target of 34.1-35.6GW of cumulative capacity by 2028, up from 15.1GW in 2018.
The French government also announced deals for 129MW of solar at an average €86.54/MWh for projects between 500kW and 8MW.
Elisabeth Borne, France’s minister for the ecological and solidarity transition, said: "These results confirm the good momentum of the development of renewable energies in our territories."
