With winds blowing at more than seven metres per second not uncommon here, the 240-megawatt (MW) development, the largest in Continental Europe, coursed 530 gigawatt hours into the national grid last year.
Run by operating company VentoMinho, Alto Minho 1 is populated with 120 Enercon 2MW turbines.
The towers are clustered at altitudes ranging from 700–1,000 metres on the Picoto-San Silvestre, Santo António, Mendoiro-Bustavade, Alto do Corisco and Picos ‘sub-wind farms’.
