Norway’s plans to open up two areas for some 4.5GW of large-scale offshore wind projects have drawn interest from Norwegian and international developers, setting up a potential battle between oil companies and renewable energy companies.

Norway-based oil companies Aker BP and Equinor confirmed to Recharge sister title Upstream that they intend to tender for acreage in Utsira Nord and Sorlige Nordsjo 2 licence areas of the North Sea, when bidding begins in January 2021.
