Danish utility Orsted has completed surveys and a environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the 1.5GW Skåne Havsvindpark off southern Sweden and submitted it for approval to the authorities, saying it is ready to invest billions to build the mega-project using turbines as powerful as 27MW.

The array, which would be built between 55 and 125 turbine in waters some 22km south of Skåne, could produce half of the southern Swedish province’s electricity needs, it said.

If the project uses 125 machines, they would have a rated capacity of 12MW, but if Orsted only were to install 55 units, they could have a capacity of 27MW each and towers 385 metres above sea level – a size that currently doesn't exist on the market yet.
