Global offshore wind giant Orsted has named Per Mejnert Kristensen as its new Asia-Pacific president.

Kristensen – previously Asia chief for FLSmidth, a supplier to the global mining and cement industries – will join Orsted on 1 August based in the Danish group’s Taipei, Taiwan office.

The company hailed his “impressive leadership track record and more than 20 years of relevant experience with large-scale infrastructure projects across Asia” as it announced his appointment, succeeding Matthias Bausenwein who left Orsted earlier this year to head-up BP’s global offshore wind business.

Kristensen joins as Orsted and its 200-plus regional employees advance projects at various stages of development in Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam and Japan.

Martin Neubert, Orsted group deputy CEO, said the appointment followed “a thorough internal and external recruitment process”.

“I’m pleased to welcome Per to Orsted. Building upon his more than 20 years of leadership experience, Per will play an instrumental role in maturing and growing our development portfolio and expanding our footprint in the region, solidifying Orsted’s position as a trusted advisor and supplier of renewable energy solutions to governments and corporates.”

Kristensen added: “I’ve long admired Orsted as a renewable energy leader and a catalyst for the green energy transformation. Based on world-leading technical and commercial competences, Orsted has built a global business that helps governments develop homegrown, renewable power capacity at large scale, while revitalising local communities and creating local jobs.”
