Renewables and hydrocarbons groups look at recasting Wenlock facility as home for kittiwakes that have proved major obstacle to turbine development
A decommissioned gas platform could be transformed into a huge artificial kittiwake nest as Orsted looks to head-off further problems with the bird that has been named North Sea offshore wind’s “biggest consenting risk”.
The Danish renewables developer as part of planning for its Hornsea 4 project is working with gas industry players Alpha Petroleum and Energean over plans to repurpose the Wenlock platform in the southern North Sea as a long-term nesting structure for kittiwakes.
