Brown acted after the developer failed to find a long-term buyer for the power by the end of July, the deadline set by the US Energy Department for it to receive the next tranche from $46.7m funding to help deploy its advanced technology offshore project.
Portland General Electric (PGE) and Pacific Power, the state’s dominant electric utilities, told the state legislature that the price for power sought by Principle Power was “extremely expensive.”
