There is no doubt that EU-derived targets have helped to drive investment in high levels of renewables capacity in the UK.
Previous governments have encouraged renewables as a route to delivering climate change action, but the current administration has placed greater emphasis on cost of energy and the impact on industrial competitiveness.
A new energy secretary could reverse that policy and redouble efforts to decarbonise the energy sector; but, equally, a general leaning towards climate change scepticism among supporters of Vote Leave could put further pressure on the wind industry.
