Italian oil & gas group Eni has made its first foray into wind power with a decision to develop and operate a 50MW project in Kazakhstan under a co-operation pact with GE.

Eni said the final investment decision for the Badamsha wind farm in the country’s northwest represents “the first large scale investment in wind technology for the company”.

The project will be developed under a memorandum of understanding signed last year with GE and Kazakhstan’s energy ministry to promote renewable projects there.
