The UK carved fixed-bottom offshore wind into a separate ‘pot’ for its next round of renewable energy contract-for-difference (CfD) auctions in a revamp of the system that clears the way for floating wind projects to compete in their own right.

The new Pot 3 for offshore wind and the inclusion of floating in Pot 2, where it will compete for CfD power deals alongside other ‘less mature’ technologies such as wave, tidal and geothermal – are among the highlights of changes announced ahead of the next round of CfD allocations in 2021.
