NorthWestern was already signed up to buy the output from the Beethoven project, located in the southwestern corner of South Dakota. But it will now acquire the project outright, paying BayWay $143m, and the deal comes with an adjacent expansion site that could hold another 50MW.
Beethoven was completed in May, using 43 General Electric turbines.
At present, Sioux Falls-based NorthWestern owns just 40MW of wind, at the Spion Kop project in Montana.
