Nordex has landed an order from Acciona Energia for the developer’s 131MW San Juan de Marcona wind project in coastal Peru, in the south-west of the Latin American country.

The OEM is slated to supply and install 23 of its N163/5.X machines from the Delta4000 series, to be places on tubular steel towers with a hub height of 148 metres, by the end of 2023.

This is the first time the manufacturer has won an order for this turbine type, which features a rotor diameter of 163 metres, from Peru.

South America is one of the key growth markets for the embattled German-Spanish OEM, and accounted for 21% of all orders last year.

Wind speeds at the project site, near the Pacific Ocean, exceed 9 metres per second on average.

The project is slated to be built near San Juan de Marcona, the capital of the Marcona district of Nazca province, which is located in the Ica region in the south-west of Peru.

It is the third order for Nordex in Peru, after the completion of a 132MW wind farm in 2018, and the current construction of a 177MW project.
