The Nordex Group has signed a contract with the North American unit of French utility Engie to supply and install turbines for the 300MW Prairie Hill project near the town of Mart in Texas.

The project will use 100 of the OEM’s Acciona Windpower AW140/3000 models on 82-metre-high towers, which represents the largest swept area wind turbine available in the marketplace with a tip height below 500 feet, Nordex said.

“We are pleased to be working with a new and important international customer, Engie, and we are bringing technology to the table that enables the lowest cost of energy solution, one which is perfectly suited to the conditions of their Texas project," said Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa.

Turbine delivery is scheduled for 2020.

Nordex during the first quarter of this year was still loss-making, but a strong order intake – especially from the US – seems to signal a recovery soon.

The manufacturer during the first quarter had announced a first, 350MW order in the US for its Delta4000 class of turbines.
