The Nordex Group continued its winning streak in North America, with a 269MW order for 56 its N149/4.0-4.5 from the Delta4000 series equipped with cold climate functions for a project in one of the northern states of the US.
The German-Spanish manufacturer didn’t disclose the client for the large project, the installation of which is scheduled to start in the summer of 2020. The order includes a two-years service contract.
"After recording significant new business with our N149/4.0-4.5 in the USA in the course of this year, this new order underlines the continuing strong demand from customers for our turbines of the Delta4000 generation," said Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa.
The machines are to be operated in a 4.8MW mode and are to be supplied in its "cold climate" version. This option offers an extended operating range enabling the turbines to operate down to an outside temperature of -30 degrees Celsius.
Nordex in recent years has been very successful with cold climate models in Scandinavia, and in the past has said cold climate technology becomes profitable once about 4% of annual energy production from a given wind farms would otherwise be lost due to ice.
The manufacturer has been widening its presence in the US lately, gaining a market share of 7% there in the second quarter of 2019, according to figures from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).
