The Nordex Group will present a further turbine model of its Delta4000 series – the N155/4.5 for medium wind conditions at “less complex sites” at AWEA Windpower in Houston.

The 4.5MW machine is aimed at growth markets without strict requirements on maximum noise levels or high levels of effective turbulence intensity. The wind OEM says that would fit optimally in much of the US, Latin America, South Africa and Southeast Asia.

“This product is a logical extension of the Nordex Group’s product strategy to leverage common components while creating optimized derivatives to achieve the lowest cost of energy for specific markets,” chief executive José Luis Blanco said.

“The standard technical platform of the Delta4000 series enables us to continuously develop highly efficient solutions for a wide range of wind regimes and adapting the products to different, very particular market requirements.”

Production of the N155/4.5 is due to start in late 2020.

The N155 has a rotor diameter of 155 metres, and comes with a longer glass fibre rotor and a different hub set-up compared to other turbines of the group’s Delta4000 platform.

The turbine will be initially launched with three tower configurations including a 108-metre steel tower, a 120m concrete tower, and a 164m hybrid tower.

The launch of the N155 comes after Nordex in March had unveiled its first model in the 5MW class - the N149/5.X - also a version within its Delta4000 platform.
