Plans to create a A$4bn ($2.7bn), 2GW wind complex in Australia were unveiled by developer Acciona Energia, doubling what is already one of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest developments and heralding another big order for turbine maker Nordex.

Acciona will add a further 1GW to what it is calling the MacIntyre Precinct development area in the state of Queensland, already home to 1.02GW dominated by the Spanish group’s 923MW MacIntyre project.

The expansion project, called Herries Range, will use Nordex turbines, Acciona confirmed to Recharge.
