Wind OEM Nordex group confirmed it will make its debut in Ukraine, equipping a 133MW project being built by PowerChina there.

The German group will by year-end install 34 N131/3900 turbines at the Syvash wind farm the Chinese EPC giant is constructing for a joint venture between Norwegian developer NBT and Total Eren, the renewables arm of the French oil giant.

A second phase will take the project on the north shore of Lake Syvash to 250MW in 2020.

Nordex, which was lined up for the Syvash deal last year, joins a list of OEMs active in Ukraine that already includes GE and Vestas.

Ukraine is among a clutch of regional markets tipped by analyst Wood Mackenzie to drive 9% in the Eastern Europe, Russia and Caspian region through to 2027.

Nordex on Tuesday announced plans to expand its production base with a blade plant in Mexico capable of supplying 1GW annually.
