Third-quarter new orders at the Nordex Group dipped to 271 wind turbines with a combined output of 1.23GW, down from 1.7GW in the same period a year earlier, amid delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Half of all orders came from North America, driven by two major projects in the US, while Europe accounted for 31% in the third quarter – primarily through orders from Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and France. Latin America contributed 19% with projects from Colombia and Brazil.

The manufacturer’s Delta4000 series of turbines in the 4-5MW range accounted for 86% of all orders in the period.

"The third quarter confirms that our customers in Europe, North America and Latin America are equally convinced by our highly efficient Delta4000 turbines,” said chief sales officer Patxi Landa.

“Despite individual delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, demand remains strong - including the outlook for the rest of the year."

During the first nine months of the year, the company’s total order intake also fell, to 3.76GW compared to 4.74GW in the same period of 2019.

Nordex in line with other wind turbine manufacturers has reported a heavy half-year net loss of €186m amid significant disruptions to its operations through the coronavirus pandemic.
