The Nordex Group has received another order for turbines from its 5MW class in Norway, adding to its growing success in the Nordic market.
The German-Spanish OEM will supply nine of its N149/5.X turbines with 5MW+ rated power for the 51MW Lutelandet wind farm in the island with the same name, at some 100 km north of Bergen in southwestern Norway.
The project was developed by Vestavind Kraft and is owned by Luteland Energipark, a unit of Norwegian municipal utility SFE Produksjon. The order includes a five year service contract.
"We are pleased to have SFE Produksjon AS as a new customer. This highlights the fact that the Nordex Group once again is the first choice among many energy suppliers and municipal utilities," said chief sales officer Patxi Landa.
Nordex a week ago had announced a 400MW order in northern Norway, also for machines in the 5MW class, and linked to corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) with metals group Alcoa.
Nordex has been very successful in the Nordic region, where it can score with turbines from its 5MW-plus category due to a lower population density in the region, and also with an anti-icing function added to its turbines.
Nordex chief executive José Luis Blanco told Recharge in an interview that he expects the boom in the Nordic market to continue due to available land, good wind conditions and public policies to decarbonise the economy.
