New York offshore wind boost as Smulders adds steel to Port of Albany arsenal
US supply chain accelerates as Marmen Welcon and Smulders link for transition pieces at east coast hub
New York State's credentials as a US offshore wind hub strengthened after a deal was struck to produce turbine transition pieces at a future plant at the Port of Albany, filling another gap in the emerging supply chain along the US east coast.
A "strategic alliance" between Marmen Welcon and Smulders adds transition pieces to existing plans for tower and foundation manufacturing at the site, located 150 miles (241km) north of New York City along the Hudson River.
