New Jersey regulators have approved Orsted’s request to purchase capacity interconnection rights (CIRs) for its 1.1GW Ocean Wind offshore wind development, giving the Danish developer an alternative location to bring electricity ashore from the giant energy project.

Orsted, the emerging US play’s industrial pacesetter, intends to secure the option of connecting the array to the existing electrical grid infrastructure located at the former BL England Generating Station is the south of the state, where a 450MW coal-fired power plant was retired last year.
