The Navajo Nation Council – the legislative body for the tribe, which has a 27,000-square-mile reservation in the Southwest US – voted nearly unanimously last week to approve two leases for the Big Boquillas wind project on state and tribal lands in northwest Arizona.
The first phase of the project, anticipated to be 48 turbines with capacity of 85MW, is scheduled to begin construction by December 2010.
