The wind power industry lost one of its true visionaries when Aloys Wobben, the founder of German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon, died in late July aged 69 after a long illness.
The genius, and sometimes stubborn, engineer in 1984 founded Enercon, after studying electrical engineering at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. The company in the town of Aurich in windy northwestern Germany quickly grew into the nation's most prominent, high-quality wind OEM, and later became a global player.
