Multibrid, a subsidiary of French nuclear giant Areva, will modify its M5000 wind turbine for Sway’s experimental floating-tower system with the goal of exploiting offshore winds in deep waters.

Sway has been granted a license from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate to build the floating turbine 7km off the coast of Karmøy. Construction of the prototype is contingent on financial support from Norway’s recently established marine-energy funding programme, Enova.
