The transmission system design, launched recently for GE 1.5MW machines, is devised for up-tower repair of low-speed planetary stage gears and bearings, offering wind farm operators the option of swapping in longer life components – including state-of-the-art case carburised ring wheels and integrated planetary bearings – to reduce the chance of show-stopping gearbox failures.
